Learning Together!
Welcome Students and Families!
Greetings! I am Mrs. Rush, and I am thrilled to be beginning my 11th year at Tavelli Elementary. I love teaching and can't think of a better job than spending my working days reading, asking lots of questions, and learning about the coolest stuff alongside the cutest and most curious creatures in Colorado!
A little bit about me and my family...I love cupcakes, kayaking, gardening, hiking, baking, reading, and being anywhere outdoors with my family. After graduating from college in Kansas, I taught sixth grade math and science for seven years at a middle school in Colorado Springs, finished graduate school at Colorado State University, and was a full time 'on-the-go' mom for 10 years before returning to the classroom. My husband Mike is the university architect for Colorado State University. He loves stand up canoeing as well as any kind of art. Our daughter Cate recently finished a nursing degree at a little school near the gorgeous Puget Sound in Washington, and is now completing a two year nursing residency in Orthopedics at PVH--yes, she's home for now. Her current FLOW (we will talk about this term throughout your first grader's year) is nutrition and naturopathic medicine; she has spent all summer teaching us many things about what to eat and what NOT to eat (cupcakes??)! Ben is studying architecture at Montana State in Bozeman, in his second year of college. He was absolutely consumed by fishing again this summer (his FLOW) and loves camping, hiking, anything fishing, and designing things he needs to solve problems (can you really sleep well in a tent made from a mesh hamper?). We love traveling as a family, with our favorite trip thus far touring Scandinavia for a month during the summer of 2017. Ben spent last summer working with a community in Guatemala while Mike and I were hiking in Switzerland and Ireland--wait--and Cate was on the San Juan Islands--whew! We also love spending any free weekend we can up at our cabin in Red Feather. Emerson's quote pretty much sums it up for the whole Rush Family.
Throughout this site you will find bits of information about our classroom community, from how we spend our day, to what we will be targeting this year in learning, as well as a few suggestions about what to read in first grade. I will update student work when I can, but we will be building student data portfolios this year to capture the essence of your emergent learner so that you won't miss a thing. I look forward to getting to know all of you this school year, and encourage you to contact me through email or classroom phone if a question, suggestion, or concern arises.
